From the very beginning, God’s design for humanity was not weakness, defeat, or slavery. It was dominion. Genesis 1:26–28 reveals God’s original plan:

“Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth…”

Man was created in the image of God, crowned with glory and honor (Psalm 8:4–6). He was placed as steward over creation, entrusted to rule, subdue, and multiply. This was not domination for selfish gain, but rulership under God’s authority—reflecting His character on earth.

The Fall: Dominion Handed Over

But then came the tragedy of Genesis 3. Adam and Eve’s disobedience handed over what God had entrusted to them. By sinning, man yielded dominion to Satan. That is why in Luke 4:6, during the temptation of Jesus, the devil declared:

All this power will I give thee… for that is delivered unto me.”

Notice—“delivered unto me.” Satan had no authority of his own; it was handed to him by Adam. From then on, sin and death reigned (Romans 5:12), and man who was meant to rule became enslaved.

Christ: Restoring What Was Lost

But God’s story of redemption did not end with the fall. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, not only to save humanity from sin but also to restore the dominion man had lost.

Romans 5:17 powerfully declares:

For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.”

At the cross, Jesus fulfilled God’s ancient promise in Genesis 3:15—He crushed the serpent’s head. At His resurrection, He stripped Satan of power (Colossians 2:15). And before His ascension, He declared in Matthew 28:18:

All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”

But Jesus did not keep that authority for Himself. He passed it to His disciples:

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy” (Luke 10:19).

Through Christ, the dominion once lost is fully restored.

Living in Restored Dominion

Now in Christ, dominion is not about earthly pride or selfish control—it is about spiritual authority. It means ruling over sin, resisting the devil, walking in victory over darkness, and manifesting the Kingdom of God on earth.

Paul affirms this in Ephesians 2:6:

And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”

As believers, we are no longer slaves to sin or fear. We are seated with Christ, reigning with Him, empowered to overcome.

Conclusion: Walk in Victory

Man was made for dominion, lost it through sin, but Christ has restored it through the cross. The question is—are you walking in that restored authority?

Romans 8:37 reminds us:

In all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”

Through Jesus, you are no longer under the enemy’s feet—the enemy is under yours. Rise up, live in your God-given authority, and manifest His Kingdom. Dominion lost is now dominion restored.
